The Role of the Funeral Director

Arranging a funeral can be a difficult task for many people.

Not only does it come at a time of bereavement but there are so many facets involved that some people do not know where to start.

This is where a funeral director will help.

Once you have chosen your funeral director, they will assist you every step of the way.

They will arrange a date and time for the funeral according to your instructions.

The funeral director will contact the church, cemetery or crematorium, and/or the person who will be conducting the service, to arrange a date and time that is mutually convenient.

They will also transfer the deceased from the place of death, or from where the deceased may have been taken after death, to their premises, or will provide practical assistance to allow the deceased to remain at home prior to the funeral, should this be the request of the family.

Their other roles may include providing facilities for viewing of the deceased prior to the funeral, placing death notices in local or national newspapers, arranging for catering at a venue of the client’s choice following the funeral, and making arrangements for the subsequent disposal of the remains following a cremation.

The service offered may differ between different funeral directors and may include additional help suck as arranging special musical requests such as soloist, piper or choir at the funeral service, or using a variety of methods to record the names of those attending the service in order to provide a list to the family.

As far as floral tributes are concerned they may accept and care for floral tributes delivered to their premises prior to the funeral, order floral tributes for the funeral on behalf of the clients or others, or accept donations in lieu of flowers on behalf of the client, providing the family with a list of those who have donated.

Verse

If roses were a stairway,

and heaven was a lane,

I'd climb the stairs to heaven,

and bring you home again,

I'd put my arms around you,

and kiss your smiling face,

Then this broken heart of mine,

would fall back in place.
